7 Ways to Make Your Office More Eco-Friendly

Go Green with These Office Tips

Going green is a great way to not only reduce your carbon footprint, but also reduce your expenses. When it comes to being eco-friendly, there are many ways to do so in your office. Here are some of our conference table company’s favorites:

Swap Your Lightbulbs

Nowadays, more and more people are switching from conventional incandescent light bulbs to ones that are more energy efficient. Both compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) and light emitting diode bulbs (LEDs) can help you reduce your electricity consumption and reduce your electric bills.

Use Electricity Wisely

Nearly every office has appliances like computers, coffee makers, copiers, microwaves, televisions, and more, however, they don’t always have to be on. This goes for lighting as well. If someone isn’t using something, make sure they turn it off. This will save electricity in the long run.

Go Casual

Though it may seem strange, having a casual dress code instead of a business casual dress code can actually reduce the amount of drycleaning that’s done. In addition, you won’t have to crank up the air conditioning in the summertime to keep men who are in suits cool.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Help eliminate waste by following the “Three R’s” as much as possible. Use both sides of your printer paper, recycle cans and plastic, use cloth towels instead of paper towels, stock reusable pens, and go digital whenever you can (instead of printing out your weekly agenda, can you email it?).

Install a Programmable Thermostat

While it’s nice to keep your office warm in the winter and cool in the summer, your heat and air conditioning don’t need to run when no one is there. By installing a programmable thermostat, you can set it to reduce the heat or air conditioning during off-hours so that you don’t waste it. In return, you’ll be using less energy and will be paying less to keep your office comfortable.

Buy Second-Hand Equipment

Need a new printer? Copier? Scanner? Instead of buying a new one, consider whether you could get by with a second-hand model. You’ll save money as well as save by-product wastage in the production of a new one.
